TEDx was created in the spirit of TED’s mission, “ideas worth spreading.” The program is designed to give communities, organizations and individuals the opportunity to stimulate dialogue through TED-like experiences at the local level. At TEDx events, a screening of TEDTalks videos — or a combination of live presenters and TEDTalks videos — sparks deep conversation and connections. TEDx events are fully planned and coordinated independently, on a community-by-community basis.
Founded by Creative Director Dylan Wilks in December 2010, TEDxVictoria has been hosting the largest annual TEDx event on Vancouver Island, BC, Canada ever since.
Hi. We are TEDxVictoria.
We independently organize idea-sharing TEDx events in Victoria, BC. We gather and collaborate with leaders, thinkers, inventors, innovators, young minds, and wise hearts around Vancouver Island in order to offer them one day of engaging talks and unforeseen connections. We celebrate the challenge and inspiration that comes with new ideas, insights and innovations.
TEDxVictoria is created for and by Victoria, so we strive for inclusiveness and connection. A community is only as strong and resilient as the people that make it, so please join us in creating an event that can inspire action. Change is all around us, so let’s step into it with passion and intent!
The 772 seat McPherson Playhouse opened as part of the Pantages chain of theatres. It is one of the finest examples of theatres from that period still standing in Canada. It has continuously served the needs of the community since opening in 1914. A variety of professional, community and amateur events are presented at “The Mac” year-round.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out in 1984 as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with two annual conferences — the TED Conference in Long Beach and Palm Springs each spring, and the TEDGlobal conference in Edinburgh UK each summer — TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Project and TED Conversations, the inspiring TED Fellows and TEDx programs, and the annual TED Prize.
