Caroline Myss

PROJECT OVERVIEW

A 3 day global broadcast of a workshop with Caroline Myss in a remote area in the south of France.

WHAT WAS SPECIAL

This was a unique project in that there were only 50 people with us at a remote chateau in the south of France, and the great majority of our audience was participating remotely from around the world, keen to hear Caroline’s newest thoughts on personal transformation. People were in multiple time zones around the world, so the 9-5 event over 3 days was for SOME people EARLY EARLY, and for others it ran LATE LATE. All were very excited to be with us, and of course there’s ONE primary production requisite – GREAT INTERNET! We had lots of lead time on this project, and had a new high-speed internet line installed at the Chateau JUST for our outgoing livestream.

TECHNICAL

We arrived to the venue the day before we were going LIVE. Our tests quickly concluded that the internet speed provided from the internet company were not as promised, and were insufficient to delivering our high-definition livestream. Some urgent phone calls later, and no luck – the company was not going to be able to provide what we had agreed to. Frustrated and without visible alternatives, we began our global livestream at a lower quality and our viewers noticed and some were still experiencing buffering and pixelation. We had with us a corporate mobile modem for these sorts of situations, but it wasn’t finding a compatable network to connect to. We considered trying to tether a north american phone, internationally, but the cell phone reception wasn’t sufficient for that either. Serious roadblock, unhappy customers, and the clock was ticking.

RESULT

A walk around the venue revealed that the cell phone signal was much better up in the vinyard, and that LOCAL phones were getting better reception than my north american iphone (network compatability). A 45 minute drive to the next village and we have a BUNCH of local, pre-paid SIM cards for the phone. Voila!: new cell phone & pre-paid SIM cards tethered to the mobile modem, ran a monster cable outside to the better reception, built a box to host the modem in the vinyard, and achieved reliable and stable speeds – victory! It was 11am of day 1, and it looked and sounded amazing. Celebrations ensued (quietly and behind the scenes).
