BC Budget 2018: Where's the beef?
GenSqueeze

Generation Squeeze got it’s start in the research of Dr. Paul Kershaw, a Professor in the University of British Columbia’s School of Population and Public Health. Dr. Kershaw and colleagues like Lynell Anderson began connecting the dots, eventually describing a 360-degree socioeconomic “squeeze” facing millions of younger Canadians, keeping them from reaching their potential and making it harder to do things like start & raise a family.

Event Summary

Generation Squeeze can help you decide for yourself whether the first NDP BC Budget boldly tackles the affordability crisis, by breaking down the numbers, the promises, and what it all means.

New policy updates and budget increases in the millions of dollars often look and sound beefy, but don’t actually add up to much. So, how will young British Columbians know if changes to things like child care and housing policy are actually meaningful?

For the BC NDP to fulfill their many promises to make life more affordable, they’ll need to deliver bold policy changes, and make brave investments in younger people. Life has become too crushingly unaffordable for us to wait any longer.

OUR EVENING INCLUDES:

– Marie Metaphor Specht: poet, visual artist, teacher and member of the 2016 Vic Slam Team, shares a powerful spoken word poem with us!
– Paul Kershaw and other Gen Squeezers discuss key areas of the budget, letting you know where it’s actually beefy, and where it falls short.
– Local people who are feeling the squeeze share their stories.

THE FINE PRINT:
