PAST EVENT
We are The Narwhal
Our team of investigative journalists dives deep to tell stories about Canada’s natural environment you can’t find anywhere else.
We have just two rules:
1) Follow the facts.
2) Tell it like it is.
We’re tired of false dichotomies and business-as-usual perspectives. We’re not shy about the fact we think Canada’s greatest assets are our people, our lakes, our rivers, our forests. We tell stories Canada’s big news outlets miss and hustle to help our readers make sense of complex (sometimes downright messy) issues.
As a non-profit organization, our goal isn’t to sell advertising or to please corporate bigwigs — it’s to bring evidence-based news and analysis to the surface for all Canadians.
Hope you enjoyed the stream, take a look at what we have from the event!
Watch the Replay!
Oil pipelines and other natural resource projects have been at the centre of some of Canada’s most heated public debates in the past decade. But beyond the headlines are the less visible systems that are meant to determine what’s in the public interest.
How should Canada go about reviewing major resource projects? What information should be considered? How do we ensure Indigenous rights are respected in the process? And who should make the final decisions?
Join Emma Gilchrist of The Narwhal for an evening of engaging conversation with some of the country’s brightest minds on environmental decision-making and hear from experts with insider knowledge on how to improve Canada’s environmental assessment processes.
Lana Lowe, director of land and resources for the Fort Nelson First Nation
Harry Swain, chair of the review panel for the Site C dam
Merle Alexander, hereditary chief of Kitasoo Xai x’ais First Nation on the mid-coast of British Columbia and expert in Indigenous resource law
