TEDx

PROJECT OVERVIEW
A daylong glamorous speaker conference created in the spirit of TED’s overall mission to research and discover “ideas worth spreading”.
WHAT WAS SPECIAL
Really the entire TED family of projects and events is pretty special, and facilitating the live broadcast for a few years for TEDxVictoria was such a treat. What made this event really unique was the relationship to TED itself – the rigorous attention to detail put into the event to bring a very polished event to life. The diverse program, set changes, grand artistic presentations and live music performances is such a rare composition to livestream from a single stage over the course of a day. Bringing precision to this day required a large team and months of pre-event preparation and design meetings.
TECHNICAL
There were three fairly unique technical elements to this project. The first as mentioned above was simply the density of diverse content and the pace of those changes on stage. This required more cameras in more places than might otherwise be needed, each staffed with professional shooters who were being directed via radio from our producer in the control booth. The second interesting technical element was one of the speakers doing an oil-and-water demonstration in a tank on stage, and we were able to have underwater cameras on stage run wirelessly back to the control centre to live mix into the show. The final technical challenge here was simply being in an OLD theatre with entirely insufficient internet for the outbound broadcast. We ultimately brought in professional wireless internet hubs and did the whole project wirelessly.
RESULT
A flawless online event full of amazing speakers, with viewers tuning in from all over Canada and the Pacific Northwest. We got some great feedback from the TED conference organizers, who watched the livestream and expressed how entirely impressed they were with the event and broadcast.
